Never throw away your old eyeglasses. Help someone in the third world see better. Our office collects them, and partners with service organizations, such as the Lion’s Club, who clean, sort and send them to third world countries. Always keep at least one spare pair, however, in case of emergencies. It is always a good idea to carry a spare pair when traveling, especially if you have a significant prescription. From the stories we’ve heard, it would appear that there are many glasses at the bottom of the ocean!
